Update after crash ;)

Dear Soup friends,

We had a big database crash, and the backups we had were corrupted.
The only working backup was from 2015.
We are working hard on getting some data out of the crashed database.

Please be patient!

Inference to the Best Explanation

In Malaysia, Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan blamed the earthquake that jolted Mount Kinabalu June 5, 2015 on a group of European and North American tourists, because they “showed disrespect to the sacred mountain” by stripping down to pose naked on the morning of May 30, at the 8 km mark of the two-day trek up Mount Kinabalu, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Mount Kinabalu is the country’s highest mountain, and considered a sacred site by indigenous people who believe the Borneo landmark is where spirits reside after people die. Meanwhile rescuers recovered the bodies of 19 climbers from the 4,095-metre peak after it was struck, six days after the errant tourists’ visit, by a magnitude 5.9 quake that sent rocks and boulders raining down on trekking routes, trapping dozens of climbers.

"Scythians used a plant to produce smoke that no Grecian vapour-bath can surpass which made them shout aloud." (Herodotus)

Ancient Solid-Gold Bongs Discovered, Used for Weed and Opium

Archaeologists have uncovered two 2,400-year-old pure gold 'bongs' that were used by tribal chiefs to smoke cannabis during ceremonies. The historic drug paraphernalia was found alongside 7lbs of other gold items when an area of land was dug up in Russia to make way for power lines. They items had been buried in a chamber lined with stones before being concealed by a thick layer of clay. Criminologists have since carried out tests which indicate that the thick, black residue found inside the vessels comes from the cannabis and opium which the tribal royal smoked. Experts believe the items belonged to the Scythians, a nomadic warrior race who ruled large swathes of Europe and Asia between the 9th century BC and the 4th century BCE. (more)

(ATSB, 13 May 2015) Fugro Equator’s deep tow system detected a cluster of small sonar contacts in the southern part of the search area, 12 nautical miles to the east of the 7th arc. The sonar data was carefully analysed and categorised as Class 2 – “of potential interest but unlikely to be related to MH370.”

Analysis of the images revealed that the debris was indeed man-made, but indicated that it was actually the wreck of a ship. This wreck is previously uncharted and the imagery will be provided to expert marine archaeologists for possible identification.
